Our grading system and PE curriculum are aligned with both the North Carolina Essential Standards as well as the National Standards for Physical Education. Student assessment covers all three learning domains: cognitive, affective and psychomotor. Currently, students in grades K-5 are assessed in four areas but students in grades 3-5 will only receive grades on actual report cards.

- Teacher observations/records of skill performance
- Various skill practice & skill testing assessment opportunities
- Video analysis of skill performance (self and/or teacher)
Understanding of Movement Concepts (Cognitive Learning Domain)
Based on:
- Written assessments of skill cues, basic rules/concepts
- Questioning based on material covered
- Teacher observations of students during activity or skill practice/application time
Responsible Personal & Social Behavior (Affective Learning Domain)
Based on:
- Following class rules & procedures (teacher observations)
- Behavioral data records
- Use of the problem solving corner to settle disputes with peers
Effort & Participation
Based on:
- Wearing proper gym shoes
- Record any instances of choosing to sit out of activity
- Activity level based on number of pedometer steps taken
